Caregivers Need Connection Too
One of our most impactful courses for caregivers is TBRI® Caregiver Training. During the course, caregivers explore Trust-Based Relational Intervention, the acclaimed evidence-based model of interacting with children or youth, especially with those who have experienced trauma. This course is essential for understanding your child’s or teen’s behavior and shaping your responses to empower a resilient future for them!
Yes, your parenting skills will surely be strengthened when you integrate TBRI’s holistic approach of caregiving that weaves together connection, empowerment, and correction. But you will also get something out of it for YOU, something you maybe didn’t know you needed…
I recently listened to an episode of the TBRI Podcast called “Caring for the Caregivers.” In it, Ana Lucia Cornejo, a clinical psychologist from Peru, describes a time teaching adults how to use the three principles of TBRI with their kids when she realized what was missing for the adults in class was the connection piece. So how could they go on to apply it with their kids? She says, “Getting the proper space to learn and to grow yourself is as important as doing the work. If you are not sharp enough or healthy enough to do the work, then you are easily going to burn out.”
As Analu’s work went on, she found that having the opportunity to have people to talk with, someone to hear their feelings of fear and their sense of failure, and someone to listen to their personal frustrations helped the adults in class feel understood. They started to understand more about their own relationships and could bring that to their parenting and relationships with their kids. It made all the difference.
When you come to a class at CWTS to learn more about how to help your kids, you’ll also find support for YOU. You are even more good for your family relationships when you have all the pieces YOU need.
