Fostering and Kinship Connection
When Enough Is Plenty
When I was raising two brothers in foster care—one from age nine and the other joining as a teen—I spent years haunted by the feeling of “not enough.” I felt there was never enough time, money, knowledge, or support to give them the security they deserved. I was constantly searching for the next resource or expert that would finally make our lives easier.
What I forgot, and what you might need to hear today, is that the most important “enough” is already in the room. It is you. It’s not a perfect version of you, or a version of you that never runs out of energy. It is simply the you who shows up consistently, lovingly, and intentionally. As Josh Shipp, who grew up in the system, often says: the most profound thing you can do is simply continue to stay. You are the resource they need most. Listen to Josh Shipp in his owns words.
